Why we started Structure Payments

For years we owned and worked in a range of businesses, and we kept hitting the same wall. A good customer would lose their credit card processing, and once they couldn't take payments they couldn't pay their bills. Then we'd lose them too. It happened to small shops and to companies doing serious volume, and it was almost never their fault.

That is what led us into credit card processing directly. Patrick had run his own processing company since 1999, and over the past decade the team built a high-risk operation into a real success — pulling together the things that actually move a merchant account: direct relationships with Visa, Mastercard and Authorize.net, a call center, and underwriters who know how to get a difficult deal approved.

Structure Payments grew out of that. We kept meeting businesses in high-risk industries who simply had nowhere to turn, so we built Structure to focus on exactly those merchants and go looking for them. Same connections, same underwriting experience, pointed squarely at the businesses everyone else turns down.

A C-suite executive for three decades who has worked in credit card processing since 1999, across small, medium and large businesses.

Patrick started his first credit card processing company in 1999, implementing full PCI DSS compliance in the era before online processors and later moving merchants onto the Authorize.net gateway. Over a 30-year career as an executive he has worked with close to 5,000 small companies that rely on card payments.

That work has spanned satellite TV and internet, home and business alarm systems, telecommunications, healthcare, first responders, commercial real estate, coaching and payment systems — hard-won experience he now points squarely at the merchants other processors turn away.

Truman has more than 30 years of experience running companies at the executive level, including over a decade building a successful high-risk credit card processing operation. Over that time he has supported thousands of small businesses with the systems that keep them running.

His work spans payment systems, payroll, insurance, workers' compensation, cybersecurity and property management — a breadth that informs how Structure Payments underwrites and supports merchants other processors avoid.
